Rothko was a painter who visited Vito’s antiques shop and bought rugs from him. 'Vito, see how I’m inspired by this rug, See the inspiration that I get from the rug.' And then I would see these blurred shapes in the painting that I was seeing in the rug...from that moment on, whenever I looked at vibrant strips of color in his paintings, I saw the rugs displayed in my store and Rothko’s use of them.” — from Vito’s forthcoming memoir.
