OUR SIZING GUIDE
RING SIZING
Hi! Ring sizing is a surprisingly personal choice! Some people wear their rings loose, some tight. If you've previously purchased Catbird rings and like the fit, simply look up your past order or get in touch with us to confirm your sizing. For a few popular methods for ring sizing at home, read on and watch our helpful video.
HOW TO FIND YOUR RING SIZE:
USE OUR RING SIZE GUIDE (must have printer)
MEASURE YOUR FINGER WITHOUT A PRINTER
1. Cut a strip of paper
2. Wrap it around your finger, snug
3. Mark where the paper overlaps
4. Lay it flat and measure on millimeter side of a ruler - that measurement is your finger’s circumference.
5. Find your measurement in the ring size guide and that’s your ring size!
FAQs - TIPS FOR MEASURING RING SIZE
MEASURING YOUR FINGER
Your ring should fit your finger comfortably; snug enough so that it will not fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance.
Finger size changes depending on the time of day and the weather. For best results measure your finger size:
1. At the end of the day and when your fingers are warm (fingers are smaller in the early morning and when cold.)
2. Measure finger size 3 to 4 times for accuracy.
Temperature is important
Don’t measure when your body temperature is either too cold or too hot. A cold finger shrinks while a hot finger expands causing an inaccurate reading. Exercise, salt, alcohol, hormones, etc. all make your fingers swell. Lack of sleep and flying on planes generally makes hands swell.
When two sizes seem to fit
If you are between two sizes, go with the larger one.
Don’t use strings
Strings tend to stretch, which can result in a wrong size.
Big knuckles can affect your size
If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, you may need to go up a half size.
A wider band needs a bigger size
If you are purchasing a wide band, you will be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement.
RING SIZES IN THE US
The most commonly purchased women’s ring sizes at Catbird range from size 5 to 7. Size 6 is our most popular ring size.
The most commonly purchased men’s ring sizes at Catbird range from size 8 to 10-1/2. Size 9 is our most popular ring size.
TIPS FOR BUYING A RING AS A SURPRISE
Borrow one of the recipient’s rings (from the correct finger) and use the ring measurements on the first page to determine its size. Please make sure beforehand that the ring you are purchasing can be resized. Rings with stones or patterns all the way around usually cannot be resized. Most other rings can be resized for a nominal fee. For best results, measure a plain, narrow band. Extra wide band styles tend to fit slightly small. If your borrowed ring has a narrower shaft than the one you wish to purchase, you may wish to order a ring a size larger than the normal size worn. Also, large stone rings may cause the shank to lift up when laid on its side on the display, slightly distorting the size measurements.
INTERNATIONAL SIZE CONVERSION
If ordering from outside of the US or Canada, determine your ring size according to your country’s standard, then use the International Ring Size Chart to convert to the corresponding US ring size. We guarantee to make the size that is ordered, but we cannot be responsible for conversions or fit.
RESIZING RINGS
Some rings can be resized, others can’t! It seems quixotic but it’s not; if a ring has a full pattern or stones all, or most, of the way around, it generally cannot be resized. Our customer service team is always happy to help with specifics!
Choosing Band Width
If you are purchasing a wide band, you may be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement. Wider bands will fit tighter than thinner bands of the same ring size. For example, a size 9 band that is 5mm in width will have a tighter fit than a size 9 band that is 1mm in width.
Choosing the best band width for you is also a very personal choice! For help with determining which band width might look best on your hand, download our Ring Sizing Guide, which includes a Width Guide that you can print out and try on!

Please note many of our chains are adjustable between a range of length noted on the product page.

BRACELET & ANKLET SIZING
We carry Catbird bracelets as short as 6” and as long as 8.5”. We like a closer fit on our bracelets, but the choice is yours! A measuring tape wrapped loosely around your wrist should help approximate the size to choose. If you are looking for a custom fit, Catbird jewelers are on-site to weld a Forever Catbird Bracelet* onto you which means your wrist will be sparkly... always! Come get zapped, bring your friends — it’s the ultimate friendship bracelet.
Anklets range from 8-10.5”, and can be worn above, on, or below the ankle based on personal preference and comfort. While our anklets have adjustable chain lengths, if you find yourself unsure where you fall in our sizing options, feel free to use a measuring tape around your anklet and add about .8 inches to this measurement to see which length will work best for you. We do not weld anklets because we find the Forever fit to be trickier - we have tested on ourselves for years!
